Wasserman Career Center of New York University serves the whole campus with multiple offices under different departments and schools. It offers a broad range of resources, support and engagement opportunities to over 13,000 international students on campus. In addition to career coaching, job search preparation (resume, cover letters and interviewing), and career fairs, Wasserman seeks to do more.
interEDGE co-founders were invited to conduct the workshops on “Optimize Your Options with Cross-cultural Skills” for international students at NYU. The first workshop focused on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) majors and the other on non-STEM majors.
Rahul Choudaha and Di Hu encouraged students to frame OPT as “Optimization” process of gaining experiences which can develop their career in line with their global aspirations. The workshop emphasized the importance of cross-cultural competence in securing OPT and leveraging it for the next opportunity.
The workshop introduced several cross-cultural frameworks to understand American culture in comparison to students’ home countries. It inspired a new growth mindset for international students that will support their long-term professional growth, regardless of whether they secure an H1-B visa sponsorship or not.
